First Post from Greece

From Apollodorou 6, Kerkyra, Corfu
I arrived late Monday after being up almost 30 hours.
It is now mid Thursday and a lot of jet lag and photo activity has accompanied my return to being with Antonios and Maria in Corfu.
I don't know how to explain it other than to say it seems as if I have been away for only a few days instead of two years.
So.
I had waited to long to buy my ticket so I could not get a window seat.
My view from across the aisle as we took off.
It was an eight hour plus flight through the night, direct to Athens.
Some watched movies and some watched the plane crossing the Atlantic.
I had an eight hour layover before flying to Corfu. I felt to tired to go into the city but there is a very nice museum exhibit in the airport replicating some of the Acropolis museum holdings.
When you descend into Corfu the flight path goes over this wonderful island.
Money talks. You can see the formal staircase going from the boat landing up to the buildings.
As I implied, memories are reawakened.
The subtlety of color and light.
Very normal, Antonios grading student papers.
You see his camera shelf in the background.
The archway is for a former door that went to a building, now gone, bombed away in WWII. You can see how thick the walls are.
Their building/home was built in the late 1700's. The exact date is not known.
The ladder goes up to their bedroom loft. The ceiling of the overall room is higher than fifteen feet.
You see the arch of the shelves in the lower left, Antonis is coming down the ladder from the bedroom loft. He has done εξτενσιβέ  extensive work on rebuilding and "reformatting" their home.
Maria brought is some flowers and put them in a complimentary cup.
With the flowers in the cup Antonis works.
The darkening sky last night
And the sunset.
And Today.
We have been working on replicating some experiments by Jeff Schewe, an international expert in Photoshop and Lightroom.
Two of Maria's paintings against the white walls are our subject for over and under exposure tests.
You can see the enlarged area from the window frame.
The lighting was different at test time.
The upper image is from two stops overexposure
The middle image is normal exposure
The lower image is two stops underexposure.
ALL have been brought into a similar set of middle value.
Anyway, without the technical explanation, you can see we are working away.

Addendum to Bill's Reception

I didn't finish the show presentation in the previous post.
Bill had two collaborators in his work.
As I said before there are video and sound components in the work.
Lisa created a video of the painting to be included in the painting.
David created a sound track to accompany the large canvas.
I closed last time with a close up of the video in the bucket.
David emerging from behind the canvas after having adjusted the sound level of his track. You can see the bucket.
David contemplating

Lisa smiling, I apologize for the slow shutter speed, it was a low level light situation.
Lisa is explaining her video to a friend.
This closes this "chapter".

Catching Up.... New England to New York;

Let's start with an "Overview"
This is Derek's guest bedroom. He says he has over 4,000 HO cars.
I think you can see the boxes coming out of the closet.
And you can see the boxes on and under the bed.
BUT, the railroad cars and locomotives are wonderful to behold.
Derek took me to dinner and I saw my first Tesla car. And wouldn't you know that it would be a convertible. Size compared to the Jeep behind it?

On to New Paltz where Francois let me try out his new camera. It is state of the art for sensor size and quality in mirrorless camera systems.
This crop of the file can not begin to show on a computer screen how sharp the image is.
When ever I visit Francois and Judy the "Cow" is in a new location.
Steve Martin had given me a tie die shirt he had made. He wanted to see an image of me wearing it. Francois cooperated.

On to Stony Point to see Bill and Sheila
Sheila and I went for a hike at one of the Seven Sisters Lakes.
Quite a  path. This hiker is using two sticks.
Sheila
I seem to have reverted to my "Tree" series.

Monday was the day to document Bill's installation in New York. We went to Pratt to pick up a lighting kit.
He showed me a piece from his foundation class work
The students worked as a group. You can see the transition from drawing to cutouts to finished parts assembled into the piece
A strong statement of group interaction and discovery

We went to the gallery in Manhattan
The exhibit is titled Situational Painting
The largest painting in the exhibition. It contains an earlier canvas, video and sound. Two other artists collaborated with Bill.
Bill's video and David's sound track are in the pail.
One wall with two pieces.
Another painting, with Lisa's video that scans the canvas in close up.

The day had it's humor
Bill clamping his work together.

AND
Onto the Reception
Bill under his red tree, Shelly, his partner, in the light overcoat. Everyone having a good time.
And people did look and discuss.
Bill sharing.
Bill & Sheila
The photographer became obvious

I close with an image that shows the video playing in the pail.
The images, though they are of fire, mimic the values and hues in the painting.

It is late Friday. Tomorrow I pack and I leave Sunday.
The next post should be quite a distance around the world.

I am asking you to look at these Three

The idea of sharing through a blog has invigorated my eyes
I have begun to focus on Light.

I hope, (really hope) that I can make images that share imagination.

So, three images here and we will see where the Blog goes.

I just wanted to clear the air (vision)......

The Midwest to New England

In Chicago, late August
What can one say, HE is everywhere.

Jerri's Foot
She and Alan went downtown to the Chicago Cultural Center to see about scheduling their "Following The Box" exhibition. Looking possible.

I met with a former student, Art Carrillo, who specializes in
Environmental Portraiture.

He took me to Nuevo Leon, a real Mexican restaurant
The light, the food, the noise were all great.

951 miles later.... New England
Grandson Collin takes coaching "Pewee" football seriously. A fun Sunday afternoon.
Then he goes home and plays Fantasy Football just as seriously.

I visited my friend Dennis Grady at Dartmouth College.
He designs and installs exhibits for "Education and Outreach."

I went to Plum Island Beach in Newburyport with Kara, Louise, and Webster.
First exploring and then
Digging

We went to a favorite restaurant where Louise had her favorite,
"The Lighthouse Special"

I close today with an image I really like, though I would guess you wonder why.
You are looking at an end on view of a Fenn Machine.
The drawing was done to explain to me what had to be done to repair it.
What I saw was a Native American drawing.
Something with spiritual import.
